Local Schools

The parish is well served by a number of local Catholic schools.

St. Philip Howard Catholic Primary School

St. Philip Howard is the local Catholic Primary school shared by St. Peter’s and Marychurch. The School has an excellent reputation and caters for children from pre-school to Year 6. It is situated in Woods Avenue, a short walk from St. Peter’s church.

Most of our children go on to one of the local Catholic secondary schools.

Nicholas Breakspear School

Nicholas Breakspear has a large, pleasant greenfield site on the rural outskirts of St Albans. There is room for the students to work and play in safe and secure surroundings. It is the only co-educational Catholic School in this area, taking pride in striving for quality and excellence in all that it does.

Loreto College

Founded in 1922 by the Loreto Sisters, Loreto College is now an 11-18 Voluntary Aided Comprehensive Catholic Girls’ school on the Hatfield Road near the centre of St Albans. The College has recently expanded to 5 forms of entry. In 2006 it was rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted, achieving grade one in all categories.

The John Henry Newman School

John Henry Newman is a popular and highly regarded Catholic secondary school in Stevenage. It takes both boys and girls aged 11-18. It aims to produce pupils committed to the Christian way of life shaped by Catholic practice and teaching.

St. Columba's College

St. Columba's is a fee-paying boys' school in St. Albans owned by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. It has both the prep school and the senior school. St. Columba's aims at the formation of the whole person through traditional values, high expectations and self-discipline.
