Activities

St. Peter’s is an active parish with a lot going on. The following are some of the groups and activities in the parish. If there is something you think is missing but which you would like to see in the parish, speak to the priest and we will see whether it is feasible to start it.

Spiritual Life

Groups which exist to support the spiritual life of parishioners.

Regular Services

In addition to the Sunday Mass schedule, there is daily Mass and a number of other services and devotions in the parish on an ongoing basis. See regular services page.

Pilgrimages

Organised on an occasional basis. Details appear in the Newsletter.

Youth Formation

To help our young people grow in the knowledge and love of God.

Sacramental Preparation

For preparation for First Communion, First Confession and Confirmation see the relevant pages. (Children are prepared for First Confession at the same time as First Communion.)

St. Philip Howard Catholic Primary School Governing Body

The local Catholic primary school is shared by St. Peter’s and Marychurch. The Governing Body works for and on behalf of the School. It is important that the parish supports and works with the School in every way possible.

The Chair of Governors is Mrs Linda Graham. Contact, if required, should be made through the school in writing

Faith Movement

The Faith Movement is a national organisation of priests and laypeople heavily involved in the youth apostolate. It offers regular talks, youth days and summer breaks. There are also Conferences and a magazine for an older age group helping us to make sense of our faith, especially in showing how faith and reason are fundamentally compatible.

Social Life

Groups which exist to promote the social life of the parish.

Coffee after 11 am Mass

Each week after the 11 am Mass there is tea and coffee in the Hall – a great way to catch up with old friends and make new ones. Help is always appreciated with the refreshments, setting up and clearing away.

Parish Support

Groups which exist primarily to offer practical support to the parish.

We have six groups who take it in turn on a weekly basis to help clean the church work. New members are welcome to join an existing team or to start a new one.

Flower Arranging

We are fortunate to have a number of people who help make the church look beautiful through their flower arrangements. Again, this is organised by rota and we welcome new members. No previous experience necessary.

Parish Council

The Parish Council exists to assist the parish priest in all matters relating to the life of the parish. If you would like a matter raised at the Parish Council, please bring it to the attention of the parish priest. Minutes of the Parish Council meetings are posted on the notice board and a general meeting for the whole parish is held annually.

Repository

The Repository is at the back of church and is open after the Sunday Masses. We sell a wide selection of religious items including books, cards, statues, rosaries, pictures, missals and Bibles. Again, we welcome those who can give a short period of time to help staff the Repository after Mass. On the tables at the back of church you will find the most recent copies of the Catholic papers.

Mary's Meals

Mary's Meals is a charity which feeds almost 1,200,000 children across the world every day. By feeding the children in their schools, it also ensures they receive an education at the same time. The charity is run with minimal overheads and involves the local communities where the children are fed. St. Peter's supports Mary's Meals in various ways including a fundraising lunch in the parish Hall one Saturday each month.
